Please remember the instructions for making Panchagavya, a traditional organic fertilizer and plant growth promoter used in organic farming. Panchagavya is made from five products obtained from the cow: cow dung, cow urine, cow milk, cow curd, and cow ghee.
Ingredients:
1. Cow dung - 5 kg
2. Cow urine - 3 liters
3. Cow milk - 2 liters
4. Cow curd (yogurt) - 2 liters
5. Cow ghee - 1 kg
6. Jaggery or brown sugar - 2 kg
Equipment:
1. Large container or pit (preferably made of plastic or concrete)
2. Stirring stick or shovel
3. Gunny bags or a plastic sheet to cover the mixture
Steps:
1. Prepare the Container or Pit:
Choose a large container or dig a pit in the ground. The container or pit should be big enough to hold all the ingredients and allow for stirring.
2. Mix Cow Dung:
Start by adding the cow dung to the container or pit. Cow dung serves as the base ingredient for Panchagavya and provides beneficial microorganisms for fermentation.
3. Add Cow Urine:
Pour the cow urine into the container or pit. Cow urine contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as beneficial microorganisms, which are essential for plant growth.
4. Incorporate Cow Milk:
Add the cow milk to the mixture. Cow milk provides nutrients like calcium and proteins, which promote plant growth and strengthen plant tissues.
5. Mix Cow Curd:
Add the cow curd (yogurt) to the mixture. Cow curd contains beneficial bacteria that aid in fermentation and improve soil fertility.
6. Incorporate Cow Ghee:
Add the cow ghee to the mixture. Cow ghee acts as a source of energy for the microorganisms, promoting their growth and activity.
7. Add Jaggery or Brown Sugar:
Sprinkle the jaggery or brown sugar over the mixture. Jaggery or brown sugar provides energy to the microorganisms and helps in the fermentation process.
8. Stir Thoroughly:
Use a stirring stick or shovel to thoroughly mix all the ingredients together. Make sure everything is well combined to ensure even fermentation.
9. Cover and Ferment:
Cover the container or pit with gunny bags or a plastic sheet to protect the mixture from rain and sunlight. Let the mixture ferment for about 7 to 10 days. During this time, the microorganisms will multiply, and the mixture will undergo fermentation.
10. Stir Daily:
Stir the mixture once or twice daily during the fermentation period. This helps aerate the mixture and distribute the microorganisms evenly.
11. Ready for Use:
After 7 to 10 days, the Panchagavya should be ready for use. It will have a fermented smell and a liquid consistency. You can now use it as a soil conditioner and organic fertilizer for your plants.
Application:
- Dilute the Panchagavya with water in a ratio of 1:10 (one part Panchagavya to ten parts water) before applying it to your plants.
- Use the diluted mixture to water your plants or as a foliar spray. Apply it around the root zone of plants, avoiding direct contact with the foliage.
By following these steps, you can make Panchagavya at home and promote healthy growth in your plants using organic and natural methods.
